He spent his boyhood immersed in the countryside, fishing and observing wildlife. A book by Bernard Venables, “Mr Crabtree Goes Fishing,” became his inspiration. From 1972 to 1983 he worked as a golf professional, but returned to painting. He is now a renowned landscape and wildlife painter. He paints mostly in oils, and is known for his life-like depiction of water and his ability to paint tree foliage with a decorator’s brush. He was elected a full member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists in 2015.
