Bryce Cameron Liston

Bryce Cameron Liston is an American painter born in 1965 in a small town in Utah. He believes his first desire to be an artist formed at a very young age when he would go out with his mother while she painted the Utah landscape. Later in school, painting became a comfortable domain for him.

He attended the University of Utah and Weber State University but left before completing his degree. He wanted to learn the craft of art, not just discuss it. With limited resources, he worked in the studio and foundry of sculptor Edward J. Fraughton.

He spent 15 years with Fraughton, learning anatomy, gesture, line, and composition. He jokes that he learned about painting from a sculptor, which does not happen every day. This experience gave him a deep understanding of form that few painters possess.

“Being an artist and painting the human figure is what compels me. It wakes me up at night, it’s what I love and I drive myself to do it very well. Art is my lifelong obsession, pleasure, and torment.”

His work embodies a timeless beauty that harks back to masters like William Bouguereau and John Singer Sargent. He blends classical realism with contemporary abstract elements. His paintings feature poetic light and subtle color. He often paints women in motion, capturing sensuality and grace.

He has won numerous awards, including Best in Show at the Oil Painters of America national exhibition in 2020. He was named one of the Top Ten Artists to Watch by Southwest Art Magazine in 2009. He is a signature member of the Oil Painters of America.

He currently lives in Utah with his wife and three daughters. His mother was a talented artist, and he sees the same ability in his young daughters. He cannot imagine life without painting or sculpting.
