Scott Conary

Scott Conary is an American painter born in 1968.

“Today’s story that will shape our lives for years to come is that of our young daughter, Jane. A beautiful bundle of laughter, Jane was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, a rare and dangerous heart defect that has required multiple life-saving surgeries and will require more in the future.”

Scott Conary grew up on the east coast, where the trees were as individual as people and the farms were as old as anything could possibly be, and he filled sketchbooks with bugs, snakes, toads, and animals that proved harder to catch, such as dragons, dinosaurs, and imps, reflecting his early love for drawing and the natural world.

Scott Conary attended the Rhode Island School of Design, earning his BFA in 1993, and after art school he started a somewhat unintential journey to find a home and see the country, and nearly fifteen years ago he and his wife, a violinist and teacher, settled in Portland, Oregon, after living in the south, the mountain west, and places in between.

Scott Conary used his motorcycle as a tool to explore the landscape and filled in the blanks of his journey, putting many miles on one motorcycle or another, and his experiences traveling across the country have informed his artistic vision and his connection to the American landscape.

Scott Conary’s daughter Jane was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, a rare and dangerous heart defect that has required multiple life-saving surgeries and will require more in the future, and it has been difficult and consuming, but today she is thriving and adorable, and throughout all of this the urge has been to paint, and Scott Conary is painting better than ever.
