Willy Verginer

Willy Verginer was born in Brixen BZ in 1957. He lives and works in Ortisei BZ. He attended the Academy of Monaco environments. From June to September 2011 he was invited to the 54th International Art Exhibition – Venice Biennale in 2011 to represent the Region of Trentino Alto Adige. In October 2011 the solo show at the gallery Arte Boccanera Contemporanea of Trento-Italy.

“Capturing the essence of its territory, the memory of places, without denying its roots Verginer has built a road of his own, original and figurative. If his poetry is part of a trend that considers her co-stars and artists like Stephan Balkenhol Aron Demetz, yet the consistency of his work is shrouded by a higher vision.” (L. Beatrice).

The sculptures and installations of Willy Verginer are estranged and introduce the viewer to a whole new dimension of magic suspension. Verginer develops an original and unique visual language that combines painting with the art of sculpting. Beginning with traditional wood work as it is practiced in his hometown, Bressaone, he slowly detached himself from conventional schemes and began following his own style. His sculptures radiate majesty and yet seem to be fragile. While moving between strong and delicate nuances, Verginer manages to create and gives the sculptures a high emotional quality and at the same time wrests their anonymity. By doing this he communicates through the sculpture and unfolds a new dimension of communication between the artwork and the viewer.
