Philippe Loubat was born in Montpellier and currently lives and works in Languedoc Roussillon, France.
He is dedicated exclusively to painting since 1980, but after 10 years of intensive research and self-taught experimental work, he maintains an assiduous presence in several renowned stages of international contemporary art, such as:
- Lineart – Gand, Belgium.
- Europ Art – Geneva, Switzerland.
- Holland Art Fair – La Haye and Art Twente – Almelo, Netherlands, St’ Art – Strasburg.
- Artenimes – Nimes, Grenoble.
- D’art – Nice, France.
- Art New York and Art Expo – New York, USA.
He is also represented in various private and institutional collections, as well as in the Museum of Contemporary Art MAC, in Bahia, Brazil.
Philippe Loubat is a resolutely optimistic painter and this is reflected in his paintings!
His universe is colorful, poetic and romantic and the themes covered are love, human relations, mythology, dreams, circus, music, art history.
Strongly inspired by literature and cinema, Philippe Loubat slips into his works winks at Lewis Carroll, Haruki Murakami, Terry Gilliam, Tim Burton or Federico Fellini.
If his paintings often seem autobiographical, it is because he stores everything he sees, everything he experiences, without putting any label on it and without trying to analyze it. He gently lets his subconscious guide him onto the canvas, painting almost without thinking about it.
One has the feeling, seeing his paintings, that he poetizes reality, that he softens it to make it more beautiful.
And if his characters often seem to float, it’s because he paints their soul more than their bodily envelope.
“I like it when painting surprises me; it’s the painting that tells the story; I just observe. I let myself be carried away, and I like that.” Philippe Loubat
