Visual Artist, Spanish Watercolorist Born in Granada

Miguel Ángel Lacal García is a versatile artist from Granada with over 21 years of experience in various branches of visual arts. He is proficient in both traditional and digital drawing, as well as 3D art. However, it’s in watercolors where he has found the perfect medium for creating fresh, spontaneous, and swiftly executed paintings. In his work, he aims to capture both the light and the movement of his surroundings, working with ease and savoring the moment.

In Spain, while working for the 3D animation production company Kandor Graphics in Granada, he contributed to various films, including “The Missing Lynx,” which won the Goya Award for Best Animated Film in 2008, “The Lady and the Reaper,” which won the Goya Award for Best Animated Short Film in 2009 and received an Oscar nomination, as well as “Justin and the Knights of Valour,” which won the Forqué Award for Best Animated Feature in 2013.

He has also worked as an artist at the animation production company Lightbox in Madrid, contributing to productions such as “Capture the Flag,” which won the Goya Award for Best Animated Film in 2015, and “Tad the Lost Explorer and the Secret of King Midas,” which won the Goya Award for Best Animated Film in 2017.

In the realm of traditional painting, he has an extensive track record in terms of exhibitions and awards, particularly in quick landscape painting contests.

Miguel Ángel Lacal García es un artista multidisciplinar granadino con más de 21 años de experiencia en las distintas ramas de las artes plásticas. Domina tanto el dibujo tradicional como el digital y 3D. Aunque ha sido en la acuarela donde ha encontrado el mejor medio para realizar pinturas frescas llenas de espontaneidad y de rápida ejecución. En ella busca capturar tanto la luz, como el movimiento de lo que me rodea, trabajando con soltura y disfrutando del momento.

Ha trabajado como dibujante y director de arte en diferentes estudios y empresas de animación y video juegos en EEUU. En España, trabajando para la productora de animacion 3D Kandor Graphics de Granada participó en diferentes películas, entre las que destacan «El Lince Perdido», Goya a la Mejor Película de Animación 2008, o «La Dama y la Muerte», Goya al Mejor Corto de Animación 2009 y nominación a los premios Oscars de Hollywood, o también «Justin y la espada del valor», Premio Forqué: Mejor largometraje animación 2013.

También ha trabajado como artista en la productora de animacion Lightbox (Madrid), participando entre otras producciones en «Atrapa la bandera», Goya a la Mejor Película de Animación 2015 o «Tadeo Jones El secreto del Rey Midas», Goya a la Mejor Película de Animación 2017.

En el ámbito de la pintura tradicional cuenta con una dilatada trayectoria en cuanto a exposiciones y premios, especialmente en concursos de pintura rápida de paisajes.
