Lee Alban

American artist Lee Alban began drawing as a child, learning from TV programs and library books. Although teachers encouraged him, he chose a career in biology and spent years teaching before retiring at 52. Only then did he enter the Schuler School of Fine Arts in Baltimore, a traditional atelier known for producing strong realist painters.

He became proficient in many styles but fell deeply in love with realism. Alban blends realistic subjects with impressionistic landscapes, especially in his Spirits of the American West series. Even when the path felt a bit unsertain, he kept refining his craft with steady dedication.

“No compromises.”

His work has earned numerous awards, including the Gold Medal from Allied Artists of America and the Excellence in Still Life Award from Oil Painters of America. He holds signature memberships in major art organizations and is designated an Associate Living Master by the Art Renewal Society. Small misstakes in texture or tone add warmth and honesty to his paintings.

Alban’s art has appeared in Artists Magazine, American Art Collector, Western Art Collector, Fine Art Connoisseur and other major publications. He continues to paint with clarity, discipline and a deep respect for traditional realism.

Soft color settles on quiet plains,
holding stories in gentle light.
A steady hand recalls the past,
painting truth in calm, slow sight.
