Lars Eje Larsson Painting

In my painting I move between different image worlds, which can shift from purely abstract to purely figurative. Most often I find myself in a figurative painting with semi-abstract elements. My way of working switches between intuitive painting and working with copies or depictions of reality. Sometimes a mix of these.

The most important thing in my painting is the light and color. I try to depict moods and space where the light plays the most important part. Composition and color are also important elements in my creation of images. I work mainly in watercolor and acrylic. In my watercolor painting, contrasts and opposites have great significance in charging the image. It is light against dark, wet against dry, distinct against diffuse, etc.

Different watercolor techniques coexist on the same image area. The moods in my acrylics are also based on contrasts and contradictions in the visual expression itself. A kind of dualism. I paint a scene where the interpretations can be many and ambiguous, where the viewer writes the story.

For me, all painting, both as a practitioner and an observer, is about the will to move and be moved. To go outside yourself and become one with something bigger.

Member of KRO BUS, Artist Center West, (KC-West), Nordic Watercolor Society and Gothenburg Artist Club Chairman 1993- 1998 Honorary-chairman since 1998.) Chairman into gallery Majnabbe Gothenburg.

10 watercolor 2/11 Lars Eje Larsson – an expressive colorist When we finally met for an interview – Lars Eje Larsson has Had been on my wish list for several years – had he just arrived Home from a trip in India The inscriptions from there did not yet have Once he puts track in his painting, they will surely come true to do.

In the studio there were a number of paintings with motifs from including a stay in Morocco that showed how safe he was Is catching light, environment and moods, which are totally Sensual from the Swedish West Coast where he lives. Watercolor technology has literally had him in his power Since the 1970s.

Lars Eje Larsson painted in oil already in 12-year- The age and actually participated in collective exhibitions from that He was 13 years old. Then he painted large, colorful cloths and through His expressionistic painting he received great attention. He was seen a little like a child who did not put any traces with him. Among his comrades, he definitely did not talk about that He painted, then it was Pop and Rock, which applied.

His family encouraged him to get a “real” profession And he realized that the “childhood stamp” would not hold So many years. It was obvious to him and his neighbor That he would have a profession with an artistic focus – that Even if he wanted to be allowed to paint in any way – And he chose to become a teacher or graphic designer And he entered all courses (HDK in Gothenburg, Konstfack in Stockholm and teacher training in Umeå.) For various reasons, he eventually chose to study in Umeå. There got He comrades from all over the country and Umeå was still there A university city under construction.

There was never talk about it that he should apply to one of the art schools to get one artist training. He has never regretted choosing to educate himself as a teacher or that he spent a few years in northern Sweden even though he In the aftermath, it may seem that it might have been better after all With a purely artistic education.

For more than ten years he worked 3/4 time as a teacher but Finally gave up the conditions for teaching all the time Deteriorated and the school money in the subject per pupil decreased Ten crowns! What do you get for material during a school year for ten crowns? In the name of truth, he was ultimately heartily tired of fighting within the school and not having conditions as were good enough to be able to give the teaching he wanted. During In the 1990’s it was very good for him as an artist. He dared to throw away and fully devote himself to his art.

Eventually, however, returned the desire to teach, for him Thought and likes to be an educator, but he did not want to Return to school. Nowadays he has weekend courses four, five times a year. administration Then he surrenders to others and concentrates Just refer to the teaching as he under these circumstances Really think is very funny and inspiring too For himself with all the rewarding and taking it like it Educational role means. All his courses have been and are in Sweden.

Under one for ten years he had a house in Provence but did not come any more Than to think about even having education there but that Plunged into everything that would be arranged practically. Although he is so used to teaching, he does not want to split itself. A course involves careful preparation and innovative thinking, nothing may be taken for granted or going on the routine.

When the course then is over it takes a number of days for him to end down. People who did not work with teaching themselves have none an idea of how much work and concentration it lies Behind an apparently spontaneous, playful easy educational effort.

Watercolor 2/11 11 Provencal landscape II, 26×17 cm, 2005 On the terrace I, 26×17 cm, 2005 12 watercolor 2/11 Baderskan, 76×56 cm, 1996 One of his friends in Umeå showed him a big book with Watercolors of the recently abandoned American watercolor painter Andrew Wyeth (1917-2009) and from that moment on Lars Eje Larsson was fascinated not only by Wyeth’s Painting but also the possibilities of watercolor technology, like him Still after nearly thirty years consider is out of order. A contributor the reason he immediately got rid of it the new technology was that he could no longer handle the solvents Which was required to work in oil.

It’s breathtaking The meeting with the American Watercolor was quite right Time for his state of health. Tjejsnack, 56×36, 2008 From the beginning, Lars Eje Larsson painted watercolor according to all Art rules but soon took the pain, the pleasure of experimentation And his own temperament over the rules.

Because since he was a teenager, he was used to expressing himself in the picture and to work with color and composition he quickly got one Very free relation to watercolor. He started with different Mix Techniques: Not Just Leaded (That’s Very Common) But also different kinds of crayons and covers, for example when we review a large number of paintings in different formats in the studio starts to assume that there are.
