Kishor Singh was born in 1977 and completed his Bachelor in Visual Arts from the Calcutta Govt. College of Arts & Crafts in 2000. He is a visual artist based in Hyderabad, specializing in watercolor and oil painting alongside photography. He has over two decades of experience balancing academic precision with expressive spontaneity.
He recieved a Certificate of merit for best water color painting in 1997-1998 and a Gold medal in watercolors and oil painting for three consecutive years. He has participated in exhibitions at the Academy of Fine Arts and the India Society of Oriental Art from 1994 to 2000. He is also a creative art Director at Glu Mobile, creating aesthetics for world class computer games.
His work is rooted in the observation of urban environments, particularly the cultural landscape of Hyderabad’s Old City. Rather than treating monuments like Charminar as isolated subjects, he integrates them into broader compositions that focus on the surrounding atmosphere. His paintings explore light, weather, and the textures of everyday life.
“His art knows no rules. This artist lets his art rule his thoughts and expressions.”
In watercolor, he engages with the fluid nature of the medium to express subtle shifts in mood and environment. His work is defined by layered compositions and a sensitive use of color, reflecting a continuous exploration of depth and atmosphere. He says watercolors are more challenging than acrylics but add life and boldness to the piece.
He showcased his collection “Art & Irani Chai, Flavors of Hyderabad” entirely in watercolors at Muse Art Gallery in 2015. The collection captured the historical monuments and various moods of the city. He fell in love with Hyderabad when he first stepped in a decade ago.
He started painting as a child and always wanted to win, not just participate. He worked at an animation studio during the day and painted at night to support his family. He is inspired by the work of Michelangelo, Eqbal Mehdi, and Sunil Das.
