Kimball Geisler

Kimball Geisler graduated from BYU Idaho with a BFA in 2015. During his studies he discovered a deep love for realism and landscape painting, especially the experience of working outdoors in shifting light and weather.

He explored plein air painting and quickly realized nature needed to be part of his daily life. Time outside shaped his vision and pushed him toward a career devoted to studying land and atmosphere.

His teachers at BYU Idaho gave him a strong traditional base. One mentor, Albin Veselka, offered guidance that helped Kimball question, refine and expand his approach to painting.

They will kill care, save you from deadly apathy, set you free.

Nature remains essential to him. He feels its energy, its quiet moments and its unpredictable character. Even small misstakes in a brushstroke add honesty to the scene.

He hopes his paintings remind people of the real world around them, the one often overlooked in busy days. Each canvas carries a sense of place and calm.

Kimball’s work has earned many awards across Utah, Idaho, Arizona and California, showing his growing presence in the plein air community.

He has won first place at the Driggs Plein Air Festival, Spring City Plein Air Festival and received recognition from Plein Air Magazine and Southwest Art.

His paintings often capture mountains, rivers and rugged passes, shaped by careful observation and emotional clarity.

He continues exploring nature with devotion, letting light guide each decision and each quiet moment on the canvas.

A ridge glows under morning air, soft colour rising from stone. Brush and wind move together, holding nature in a gentle tone.

Q: What drives Geisler’s plein air work? A: His need to be outdoors, observing nature directly and capturing its shifting light, energy and quiet details.
