Jamie Salmon is a British born sculptor in Vancouver who makes people out of silicone and resin that look more real than real. You walk up to one and your brain short circuits for a second because it expects breath, a blink. He’s obsessed with the raw beauty of human imperfection. Wrinkles, pores, stray hairs. He puts it all in.
His work is haunting. Not scary. Just makes you stare too long, not sure if you’re looking at a sculpture or a person caught mid thought. Each one has this quiet presence. You lean in looking for the seam, then forget because the eyes are looking back. That’s his gift. He leaves you without an easy answer.
