Cayetano Arquer Buigas ( Cerdanyola del Vallès , Barcelona , November of January of 1932 – ibidem , 13 of September of 2012 ) was an impressionist painter Spanish , self – taught and recognized primarily for their necks, nudes, portraits, horses , maternities, among other subjects that he captured with oil, pastel and coal techniques.
Biography
He was born in the Arquer family that come from the Catalan nobility, and in the Buigas, a family that stands out artistically in several areas. His maternal grandfather was the architect Cayetano Buigas , author of the Monument to Columbus of Barcelona, made for the Universal Exhibition of Barcelona in 1888 .
His adolescence passed between Madrid and Sardañola del Vallés (Barcelona). From his childhood his inclination for drawing was manifested. He was a companion of the filmmaker Carlos Saura, with whom he shared his love of photography. Years later, he established in Barcelona, together with the film director Carlos Durán and the publisher Jorge Herralde , a trade dedicated to photography.
At 27 he made his first exhibition in the restaurant of his uncle Ignacio de Arquer in Cabrera de Mar . From there he exhibited in several national and international galleries.
Work
The work of Arquer Buigas is very extensive, because although its main theme is the woman, and especially the nape; It ranges from portrait to landscapes, nudes, horses, etc. His technique was pastel, oil and coal.
His work is distributed private collections in Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States, among others. In 2011 one of his works was selected to be part of the 50 pieces that make up the display shows presented during the BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery in London.
